A defect report is how you tell Iron Octopus that something isn’t working. Iron Octopus looks into it with you, you agree what’s wrong and what should happen instead, and the fix is planned, built and released like any other feature.

What it contains

  • What you saw, and any evidence such as screenshots or steps.
  • Iron Octopus’s triage: what it found, and the problem and outcome you agreed.
  • A decision on what to do about it.
  • The fix, a linked feature, if the defect is accepted.

From report to fix

1

Report it

Describe the problem in plain words.
2

Triage

Iron Octopus investigates and talks it through with you until you agree on the problem and the outcome you want.
3

Decide

You approve the scope of the fix. Iron Octopus creates a bug fix feature in Planning and links it to the report.
4

Fix and release

The fix goes through the same planning, review, verification and release as any feature.
If the problem is in a feature that’s already released, that feature stays as it was. The fix is a new feature, so the record of what was released, and when, stays intact.

Decisions

A decision can be revisited. Earlier decisions stay in the report’s history.

States

A report moves from New to Triaged, then Remediating while the fix is built, Verifying while the fix is checked, and Resolved.

Where you see it

  • Defect Reports on your Home page, with each report’s severity: Critical, High, Medium or Low.
  • On the project’s defect page.

What you can do

  • Report a defect.
