# Members

> Invite people to your workspace, choose their roles, change roles and remove people, and how seats are counted.

Members are the people who work in your workspace. Owners and Admins invite them, choose their roles and remove them in Workspace settings › **Members**. For what each role can do, see [roles](https://docs.ironoctopus.ai/building-blocks/workspaces.md#roles).

## Invite someone

**1. Open Invite Member**

Go to Workspace settings › **Members**, and find **Invite Member**.

**2. Enter their details**

* **Email**: the address they'll sign in with.
* **Role**: **Member**, **Admin** or **Guest**. You can change it later.
* **Message (optional)**: a note included in the invitation.

**3. Send it**

Click **Send Invitation**. The page confirms **Invitation sent to** their address, and it appears under **Pending Invitations**, with the role it was **Invited as**.

**4. They accept**

They accept from the secure link in the invitation email, signing up first if they're new to Iron Octopus.

To cancel an invitation that hasn't been accepted, click **Revoke** next to it.

## Seats

Your plan includes a number of people. On Pioneer, that's 5. You can invite more, and each extra person adds to your bill. Adding people takes effect immediately and is charged pro rata for the rest of the billing period. See [plans and billing](https://docs.ironoctopus.ai/account/plans-and-billing.md).

Each person needs their own account. Accounts can't be shared.

## Change a role

Choose a new role next to the member's name. The page confirms **Role updated**. The change takes effect immediately.

* Only Owners and Admins can change roles.
* Approving plans and releases needs the Member role or higher. Give Guest to anyone who should only watch.

## Remove someone

Click **Remove** next to the member and confirm. They lose access to the workspace immediately. Their past work, approvals and decisions stay in the record, attributed to them.

A member can also leave a workspace themselves. The workspace Owner can't leave.

## If something goes wrong

| You see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Failed to send invitation** | Check the email address and whether they're already a member or invited, then try again. |
| **Failed to update role** | Only Owners and Admins can change roles. |
| They didn't get the email | Ask them to check spam. Otherwise, revoke the invitation and send a new one. |
